Fifa: Platini heard in December by the Ethics Commission
ZURICH - Michel Platini, candidate for president of FIFA but threatened with a lifetime ban, will be heard by the Commission of the Fifa ethics "most likely between 16 and 18 December," have we learned Friday a source close to Fifa.
Michel Platini will be heard by the trial chamber of the Ethics Committee while the investigation chamber requested late November against him, his lawyer, a lifetime ban for a controversial payment of 1.8 million euros received in 2011 by Joseph Blatter, resigned today FIFA president.
Platini and Blatter "has asked to be heard, which will be granted. Michel Platini will be heard most likely between 16 and 18 December "" told AFP a source close to Fifa.
On November 24, counsel for Platini, Mr Thibaud Ales, announced that the Ethics Commission of the investigating chamber of FIFA had requested a lifetime ban against his client.
No information on requisitions against Blatter has however been communicated by his lawyers.
Platini as Blatter was suspended on October 8 to 90 days on a provisional basis pending the judgment on the merits. Platini is accused of having received in 2011 a payment of 1.8 million Blatter for a mission between 1999 and 2002.
It is also criticized Blatter the award to Jack Warner, former boss of the sulfur Concacaf himself indicted by the US Justice and awaiting extradition to the United States, a media rights agreement with conditions apparently below the market price.
To these facts, Blatter also indicted by the Swiss justice Platini who was heard as an assisted witness.
At the same time, Platini has called on 20 November, of his provisional suspension of 90 days before the Arbitral Tribunal of Sports (CAS) based in Lausanne.
Another source familiar with the matter, the CAS decision is expected "in the coming days."
The lawyers Blatter did not indicate if they had appealed to CAS. The outgoing President has a period of 21 days to appeal, which period expires around December 9.
But according to the same source, it is not subject to the same schedule as Michel Platini and could afford to wait for the decision on the merits to appeal in the event of an unfavorable decision, first before the Appeal Board FIFA then possibly to TAS .
