Retirement for Dupuis

There are some months, Pascal Dupuis had made an important promise to his wife, Carole-Lyne and her four children. He never would put his own health at risk in order to pursue his career in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Dupuis kept his word. At 36, he announced his retirement from hockey.
"I took this decision for my family, Dupuis told the VOR journalists to cover the Penguins after a workout in Denver, Colorado. If this choice was mine only, or if I was a selfish person, I probably still be playing. "
"I thought for a while, he said. When I left the game in San Jose (December 1) after the second period, it became increasingly clear in my head. I did not keep that weight on my shoulders, those of my wife, my children, my team and my teammates. "
"I felt a little pain in the chest and I had to undergo tests. They have not found another blood clot, but I had no strength to endure all battery tests. I thought that my body could not endure this. "
After the match in San Jose, Dupuis has donned the uniform of the Penguins for two other meetings in Los Angeles and Anaheim. He had received the green light from team doctors.
Two stories clot
Over the past two years, Dupuis spent several months in the infirmary. After a leg clot in January 2014, resulting from a major operation on his right knee, doctors discovered the presence of a clot in his lungs in the month of November 2014.
The Québécois had played five games in last November without a third of a lung.
"I have no regrets in what I do, said Dupuis this summer in an interview to the Journal. Never never. I can tell you that I do not regret, but I will not do it ever again. "
Back to the game this season, Dupuis has played 18 games with the Penguins, getting four points (2 goals, 2 assists). He will have won his battle to return to action following a strict medical protocol and injecting himself anticoagulants every 12 hours.
Having undergone small scares in recent weeks, he has chosen to stop for the sake of his own health.
"I feel extremely bad for Pascal, Jim Rutherford has said, the Chief Penguins. I have never seen a man so determined to play and even more determined to help his team. Unfortunately, we have reached a point where it is impossible to allow it to pursue the best interest of his health. "
Never drafted, Dupuis has worn the uniform of the Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, Atlanta Thrashers and Penguins during his more than 15 year career in the NHL. He took part in 871 games, amassing 190 goals and 409 points. He raised the Stanley Cup in 2009 with the Penguins.
